Reconstruction means correcting some defects. It covers a larger area of plastic surgery than aesthetic surgery.

In these operations, congenital anomalies as well as acquired anomalies can be corrected.

-Cleft lips: the condition is known as 'rabbit lip' among people. It may be single-sided or two-sided. A baby with cleft lips should be operated at the age of 10 months.

-Cleft palate: The condition is also known as 'wolf mouth'. The palate may be cleft as far as the teeth or only the rear part or uvula may have a cleft form. This condition leads to speech impediment. Thus, a baby suffering from cleft palate should be operated before he/she begins to speak.

-Hypospadias: It is located below where there should be an opening in the child's penis. Its removal in infancy is important; however, the child should not be circumcised because the skin can be used in the operation.

-Syndactylia and Polydactylia: The condition in which the fingers may be conjoined or there is a sixth finger is a congenital defect. The can be corrected by operation.

-Facial fracture: Trauma associated jaw and facial bone fractures are repaired by plastic surgeons.

-Hand surgery: Trauma associated hand-cuts; tendon ruptures; vessel and nerve damages should be evaluated by a plastic surgeon and then operated.

- Burns and burn contracture repairs: Particularly the burns involving the joints may result in receding or shrinking within months if proper treatment is not applied. These problems are corrected by plastic surgeons.

-Removal of dermal tumors: the tumor may have the size of a mole as well as be in the form of skin cancer. Moles can be removed through minor interventions. Their removal presents no disadvantages. Skin cancers, however, require extensive excision through which they can be 100% recovered. The defect resulting from the excision can also be repaired by a plastic surgeon.
