The breasts may be oversized for various reasons. Disproportional size of breasts may be associated with genetic factors, hormonal changes, or certain diseases.
Changes in weight, breast-feeding, and not wearing a bra may augment the existing problem. Increased breast tissue and associated oversized breasts may occur in young girls as well.

Aesthetic breast downsizing or reduction mammoplasty is not just a procedure to change the physical appearance of individuals. In some cases, it is not an arbitrary practice but a must. As well as distorting the physical appearance, large breasts may cause back and neck pain and hunched back. Abrasion of breast skin against body skin may lead to sweating, itching, and rashes. In fact, lesions and fungal infections may develop. These problems are so discomforting for some patients that they are forced to have the operation. Briefly, breast downsizing operation not only improves the physical appearance of individuals but also increases the quality of life. Moreover, the probability of malignant tumor development is relatively lower in downsized breasts.
The Operation
The use of all drugs including Aspirin and alike should be avoided 7-10 days before the operation. If possible, smoking should be abandoned. The operation is performed in the operation theatre under general anesthesia. It lasts about 3-4 hours. Preoperatively, drawings are made on the breasts, and incisions are inflicted accordingly. Through this operation, while the breast volume is reduced, the breasts are lifted by setting the bulging breast tissue due to weight and nipples in to their normal position. The brown area (areola) around enlarged nipple is also reduced in size. At the end of the operation, the curve under the breasts and the area from areola downwards are sutured (inverted T shape).
Postoperative period
One-day hospitalization will suffice. The patient feels little discomfort in postoperative period, usually minimal pain. In 2-3 days the drains (thin tubes) used for draining the leakage from the breasts are removed. In a week's time, the patient can resume her normal life. The sutures are removed on the 10th day. The incision scar becomes vague in time. The outcomes of the operation improve the psychological health of the patient and her partner and increase their satisfaction. It particularly facilitates the clothing choices and movements of women. The person is so satisfied with her new looks, the operational scars never constitute a problem.
Despite reduced milk canals and milk glands, a woman can have babies and breast-feed them.
