Thus, the breast tissue and nipple hang downwards with its own weight. This is called ptosis. Ptosis may develop in oversized breasts as well as in the breasts of normal or low volume. Breast lifting is performed along with breast reduction for oversized breasts. For small breasts, it can be performed during silicon implantation. Breast lifting is essentially a procedure performed on breasts with normal volume and ptosis.

When observed from the opposite side, the nipple should be roughly around the middle point of the arm between the shoulder and elbow. When observed on the profile, the nipple should be at a level above the curve under the breast. It begins to shift below this level when pitosis develops (click here for figure).

First, the nipple and the curve under the breast are leveled. This is called first-degree ptosis. In time, the nipple shifts under the curve level, which is a second-degree ptosis. The process is prolonged and in the following years and the nipple shifts to its lowest position. This constitutes the third-degree ptosis. The degree of ptosis varies among individuals. However, its onset follows breast development and then continues. The decision for operation can be made at any stage of this process, thus, preventing ptosis.

The operation aims to shape the breast tissue. Breast downsizing (reduction mammoplasty) is not performed. The breast volume remains the same. Redundant skin is removed and the nipple is shifted at a higher position. The loose skin is stretched; thus, fuller and elevated breasts are achieved. When breast enlargement is desired, silicon can be implanted.

The Operation

The use of all drugs including Aspirin and alike should be avoided 7-10 days before the operation. The operation is performed in the hospital under general anesthesia or neurolept anesthesia (intravenous anesthesia). It lasts 1-2 hours. There is no need for hospitalization. If the breast tissue has low volume or is ptotic, only silicon implantation is performed. The operation and postoperative period are the same as in breast enlargement (silicon implantation) operation. When the breast tissue has a normal volume but is ptotic, silicon implantation is not a proper choice. The loose skin on the breast is removed, and the breast is elevated and made fuller. There will be some incisions and sutures around the nipple, from the nipple downwards, and the curve under the breast.

Postoperative period

A very aesthetic look is achieved through this operation, highly satisfying the desires of the individual. No hospitalization is required. The patient can resume her normal daily life The operational scars do not create problems and become vague in time. The sutures are removed on the 10th day. Newly shaped breast remains in that shape for a long time, but use of a bra is recommended to avoid ptosis.
