These problems may cause sweating, itching, and rashes as well as aesthetic discomfort. It is not possible, however, to improve the abdominal flabbiness by dieting or sports. The removal of loose skin and surgically firming the muscles are the only solution. If flabbiness involves both upper and lower abdomen, major abdominoplasty firming both areas and creating a new navel is required. If it is restricted to lower abdomen, minor abdominoplasty that aims to firm lower abdomen and keeping the same navel can be performed.
The operation
The use of all drugs including Aspirin and alike should be avoided 10 days before the operation. The patient should also refrain from smoking. The operation is performed in the operation theatre under general anesthesia. The operational incision is inflicted on the groin as in cesarean operations. However, it is longer and measured to be below the bikini line. The abdominal skin and subcutaneous tissues are stretched over the deep muscles to the level of the ribs. Excess skin and fatty tissue are removed, and the skin is sutured to the lowest end. The loosening and herniation of the abdominal muscles are firmed. This also provides the benefit of trimming the waistline. A drain is inserted to collect any liquid and blood leak.
Postoperative period
One-day hospitalization is required. Postoperative period is less painful than expected. Drains can be removed after 2-3 days. Daily dressing is necessary. In major abdominoplasty, there are sutures on the groin and abdominal area. The sutures are removed on the tenth day. The scars turn vague in time. The physician may recommend some applications for better healing of the scars. .
Abdominoplasty increases the life quality and is a satisfying experience.
