Almost no remedy including medications and externally applied lotions has remained untried in attempts to cure hair loss for many centuries.
Up to date, hundreds of medications have claimed to prevent hair fall-out and/or induce hair growth, offering hopes for those suffering from hair loss. None, however, has provided successful results. In our times, there are only two medications proven to prevent hair loss and approved by FDA.

1. Finasiderid (Propecia) 2.Minoksidil losyon(Rogain)
Finasteride prevents the conversion of testosterone hormone, held responsible for androgenetic hair fall-out, into its more active metabolite, dihydrotestosterone. The drug produces this effect by inhibiting 5 alpha reductase enzyme, which enables the conversion. Finasteride selectively hinders the activity of this particular androgen in the prostate and skin, thus, protecting the hair roots from the negative effects of the hormone. Although the drug may reduce the sexual functions to a small degree, withdrawal of the drug improves the condition. Consequently, the use of this medication presents difficulties.
Minoxidil, on the other hand, is essentially a vessel expanding drug and used in the treatment of hypertension. Its hair growth effect was coincidentally noticed, and it was produced in lotion form for external applications. Despite indefinite evidence on its effective mechanism, it is believed to increase the blood flow to the hair root. It also has minimal side effects.
The efficiency potentials of both drugs are almost the same. They provide a mild or moderate degree of improvement in 1/3 of patients. To benefit from the drugs, the therapy should be continued for at least 4 months without interruptions. Upon withdrawal of the drug, hair fall-out resumes.
